The Charm Simplicity
The house was unfurnished when they took it over a year ago. The sole decoration was odd, soberly stained woodwork and stone clad walls. Not only was this combination unattractive and most oppressive but it had greatly reduced the pleasant proportions of the rooms. I decided to build panels to cover the stone clad walls, and everything was soon painted white, giving impressions of more space and coolness as well as offering greater possibilities for decoration.
“I wanted everything to be fresh, gay and simple and the garden to enter the house.”This is obvious everywhere. Above the sofa is striking painting a burst of colors from mystical garden from which seem to cascade abundant, unusual bouquets. The flower arrangements and plants are a dominant asset to the décor. Cane and modern upholstered furniture in a soft shade marry well in this room with very few decorative objects.
For dining room this imaginative woman has chosen to paint the table and chairs a flashy coral red which makes for a young and spontaneous atmosphere. I would have never dared have furniture of this color but because the occasion to create something new and wanted it to be lively.
Instead of often wanting to look for a thousand and one things to decorate and furnish a house, leave it as simple as possible with only a few carefully selected objects placed to bring out their full artistic value.
