A Room for Variety

But much depends on what kind of bathroom it is. Many old houses still have tatty make shift bathrooms, perhaps with temperamental old time geyser. Inter-war and post-war homes have cold white “clinical” bathrooms, efficient perhaps, increasingly shabby certainly.

We have long moved out of the era of bathing as a sheer necessity and like to surround it with comfort and taste, even perhaps with touches of luxury unimagined some years ago. The way the bathroom has “gone up market” is very much part of higher living standards, reflected also in house valuable.

But the bath room as all too often relegated to last on the list of rooms to be renovated after moving home, though the pleasure of using a well designed and equipped bathroom is a daily “return on capital” which all the family can enjoy.

The bath room fitting industry has gone all out for color and the modern bath room has become one of the brightest rooms in the modern home. So, should you buy an older house, there is scope to create a really beautiful and up to date bathroom. It need not be big and if you are converting a bathroom in a more modern home it’s not like to be.
